What comes next

When I started this in 2015, social media looked, operated, and felt a little (okay, a lot) different than it does now. The rise of social media was then and is now inevitable. On the cusp of a new year, we’ve seen the grim realities that exist due to the lack of regulation. And as someone who built a business with honest intentions for online connectivity and community, it’s clear that social media has had the opposite effect on our society.

Today, more than half of the world's population subscribes to one or more social channel. With that, users have bought into the idea that the constant bombardment of misinformation and misleading content is normal. Allowing conspiracy and conflict to erode our relationships on and offline. We’ve bought into the idea that data privacy laws aren’t important. Senselessly laughing as an ad for something we just searched for pops up on our feeds. Left without consequence, we’ve allowed large companies to take another’s art and content, then use it and profit from it as their own creation.

While social media management has been the bread and butter of Persimmon, I feel a shift for the company is also inevitable. With that, and while I begin exploring new markets and opportunities, I’m pivoting to a different type of content. Reminding myself (and hopefully other users) that social media was designed to connect us. To share and celebrate our different voices, lifestyles, interests, and beliefs—an online community of people.

I hope you’ll stay tuned for what comes next. I have a feeling it’s going to be 🔥.
